Games Ontario Program
The Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games is supported by the Ontario Government, through its Games Ontario program. This program delivers and supports multi-sport events, including the Ontario Summer and Winter Games for youth, the Ontario 55+ Winter and Summer Games and the Ontario Parasport Games.

Ontario Parasport Games
The Ontario Parasport Games were first delivered in 1975 by the City of Cambridge. Since then, the Games have grown to over 500 participants competing in 10+ sports. The Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games will be the 43rd edition of the Games.
Meet PACHI
PACHI is the head cheerleader of Games Ontario events, all of which showcase Ontario athletes competing in sports.
PACHI also supports the athletes and coaches on Team Ontario at the Canada Games.
PACHI is a porcupine and like other porcupines, has a visual impairment and difficultly seeing people and objects that are far away.
His white hat and wristbands feature the Games Ontario logo, modelled on the iconic Ontario trillium and highlighted with red, green, and blue:
- Red represents “inspiration” and it’s Team Ontario’s official colour
- Green represents “opportunity”
- Blue represents “community”
Games Organizing Committee
The Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games is led by a Games Organizing Committee (GOC). The committee, formed by enthusiastic community leaders, will help shape the Games and create a unique event to welcome participants and spectators across Ontario.

Leadership in sport event sustainability is a key component of our mission to deliver the best Ontario Parasport Games yet. We will be steadfast and innovative in our commitment to the three pillars of sustainability-environment, social and economic.
True Sport Principles
We’re pleased to declare the Durham Region Ontario Parasport Games an official True Sport Event. This means True Sport values and principles will be embedded in the Games’ preparation, hosting, and participation.
During the Games, athletes, coaches, staff, spectators, and volunteers are encouraged to promote and demonstrate the values of fairness, excellence, inclusion, and fun.
Sport Durham is a proud member of True Sport because we believe fostering a positive environment leads to more people in our community enjoying all the benefits of sport. We also believe that True Sport can unite and connect our sport community through a shared belief that good sport can make a great difference.
Everyone attending the Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games is asked to demonstrate these values and the True Sport Principles.

True Sport is an approach to values-based sport that is underpinned by the seven True Sport Principles; “Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep It Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back.” True Sport is an initiative of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), which is designed to give people, communities, and organizations the means to leverage the benefits of good sport, from a platform of shared values and principles.
