True Sport Principles

We’re pleased to declare the Durham Region Ontario Parasport Games an official True Sport Event. This means True Sport values and principles will be embedded in the Games’ preparation, hosting, and participation.

During the Games, athletes, coaches, staff, spectators, and volunteers are encouraged to promote and demonstrate the values of fairness, excellence, inclusion, and fun.

Sport Durham is a proud member of True Sport because we believe fostering a positive environment leads to more people in our community enjoying all the benefits of sport. We also believe that True Sport can unite and connect our sport community through a shared belief that good sport can make a great difference.

Everyone attending the Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games is asked to demonstrate these values and the True Sport Principles.

True Sport is an approach to values-based sport that is underpinned by the seven True Sport Principles; “Go For It, Play Fair, Respect Others, Keep It Fun, Stay Healthy, Include Everyone, and Give Back.” True Sport is an initiative of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES), which is designed to give people, communities, and organizations the means to leverage the benefits of good sport, from a platform of shared values and principles.

As a values-based sport network leader, the CCES believes that activating the True Sport Principles, on and off the field of play, will contribute to a positive shift in Canadian sport culture. Learn more at www.truesport.ca.
