Three Demo Sports Added

We’re excited to share that we’ve added three demonstration accessible sports to be showcased during our Games weekend – Para Equestrian, PowerHockey, and Floor Curl
It’s part of our mission to grow accessible sport opportunities and participation as part of our Games legacy.
Para Equestrian will be hosted at WindReach Farm, partnering with Para Equestrian Canada, Ontario Equestrian and the Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games. The afternoon session will include a Rookie Rider Try-It session.
PowerHockey is a new sport being introduced to our community. It’s a fast-paced hockey game played in a gymnasium with players using power wheelchairs and plastic hockey sticks.
Through a partnership with PowerHockey Canada, Ontario Parasport Collective, and the Durham Region 2023 Ontario Parasport Games, there will be an information session, a high-performance demonstration scrimmage, and a community try-it session at the Abilities Centre.
A PowerHockey pilot program is planned for Durham Region following the Games so players, volunteer coaches and administrators will be sought too.
Mixed Ability Floor Curlis a new sport being offered by the Abilities Centre. It’s just as it sounds really – curling without the cold, ice, and sweeping.
There will be an information session and a try-it session at the Abilities Centre.
Para Equestrian will be hosted on Saturday, February 4, while PowerHockey and Floor Curl will be hosted on Sunday, February 5. Follow our Sport Durham social media accounts for more information and come join the fun.
